About Seville
Seville is located in south-western Spain, on the plain of the lower Guadalquivir, and lies on the banks of this river, which has seen the rise and fall of many civilizations. Each and every one of them left its seed, explaining the magnificent historical, monumental and cultural heritage of the city. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot summers and mild winters. Average (1997-2010) November mean temperature is 15ºC, and precipitation 72,2 ml.

The most important tourist sights are the Gothic Cathedral, the Golden Tower (Torre del Oro), the ruins of the Roman City “Itálica”, the Indies Archives (Archivo General de Índias), the Real Alcázar and the Maria Luisa’s Park (Parque de María Luisa).

How to get there

By air: Seville has its own airport that has a good connection with the major airports in Spain (e.g. Madrid, Barcelona) and several European cities. To get to the city from the airport, you can utilise the Aeroport service of Seville Bus (check fares and timetable).

By bus: The cheapest way to arrive to Seville from Madrid is by bus (from Méndez Alvaro bus station), but it is an exhausting ride, the journey takes six hours. There are regular buses throughout the day. The The first bus leaves at 8am and the last at 1am in both directions. You can consult the timetable and book your ticket from Socibus (remember to search for ‘Sevilla’, the Spanish name for Seville) or directly at the bus station. There are also bus services from Malaga and the major Spanish cities around Seville.

By train: A quicker way to get from Madrid to Seville -or vice versa – is on an Alta Velocidad Española (AVE) train operated by Renfe, the Spanish national railroad. This takes only 2.5 hours under very comfortable circumstances. You can even get a cheap ticket online if you make your booking well advance. Trains leave from the Atocha Railway station in Madrid, that you can reach easily via the city’s Metro system. In addition, there is a shuttle services that connects the airport with the railway station. Renfe also runs services (either fast or regular trains) from other big cities in Spain (e.g. Malaga, Cadiz, Valencia, Barcelona). Please, check Renfe’s website for details along your interest

By car: Madrid and Seville are 536 km or 340 miles apart, a distance that translates into at least six hours of driving time. For details about the Spanish motorway system including the list of toll roads see the Directory of Spanish maps. To plan your itinerary you can use your preferred map search engines.
